On the road with custom seats

Who We Are

We (Max and Kait) are two rascals who share a love of being broken down on the side of the road, looking ridiculous, misbehaving, and saying “I can make that myself” about things that we very much should not make ourselves. When asked, our friends (and enemies) have described us as “little sweetie pies,” “scamps,” “stinkers,” and as several types of “gooses” (not all of which were flattering).

We got started making seats when we were building out our own bikes. We saw what was out there and wanted something a little more… out there. Those first seats were really rough. We sewed them on a hand-crank sewing machine on the kitchen table, made a lot of mistakes, and only sort of liked the finished product. But we loved the process. We started playing with new designs, building our skillset, and learning new techniques. We made seats for our friends’ builds, got an actual industrial sewing machine, and then decided to start Bad Gasoline—mostly to legitimize how much time we were spending crafting.

We are both builders, riders, crafters, and problem-solvers. Everything we make is for the joy of making. We burn our own screen print designs and hand print every shirt in the kitchen. We make bags and tool rolls based on what we find we need when we ride. We love seeing our work alive in the world, be it ripping down the highway, winning a fancy lil show, or looking sexy in the centerfold of a magazine. We love to hear your feedback about form and function, crazy design ideas, and stories about where your seat has taken you.

We still run our first seats on our sportsters. They’ve got thousands of miles on them and are (while still ugly) holding up great.
